Gary's Story
Decades of Hands-On Experience
Gary Winter has spent decades designing, manufacturing and installing steel gates across Christchurch. BestSteel is family-owned and operated, and every job still runs through Gary — from the first site visit to the final install.
Every job runs the same way: we visit the site, work out what will actually fit, then design, build and install it ourselves. That's how you end up with a gate that sits flush and square — not one that's been forced to fit after the fact.
Every gate gets a finish tailored to its site and conditions — for example hot-dip galvanising for coastal or high-exposure locations, or powder-coated pre-galvanised steel for standard settings — so the steel and welds are protected from rust for years to come, whatever your property needs.

For over 20 years, BestSteel has been part of the Christchurch community — and for much of that time, we've supported the Canterbury Special Children's Christmas Party — a free Christmas party put on for children with additional needs and their families across Canterbury, run by volunteers and local sponsors. It's something Gary and Marlene have always enjoyed being part of, and it's become one of the ways BestSteel gives back to the community it's built on over two decades in the trade.
